Cordova (United States)
Generation, Natural Gas-fueled
The Project
The Cordova Energy Center, located in Illinois, is a natural gas-fueled combined-cycle generation plant owned by Cordova Energy Company LLC., an indirect subsidiary of MidAmerican Energy Holdings Company. Cordova Energy Center has contracted to sell its output to Constellation Energy Commodities Group. Although the Constellation Group has the right to purchase all of the plant's capacity and energy until December 2019, Cordova Energy Center retains the option to sell 50 percent of its output to other marketers.
Environment
MidAmerican minimizes the environmental impact of a large-scale electric generation facility by using clean-burning natural gas, installing state-of-the-art emission controls and employing a heat recovery system that captures waste heat to produce additional electricity. Plant cooling is provided by closed loop cooling systems.
This facility is designed to meet all existing standards for emissions and employs Best Available Control Technology, allowing the plant to be well below standards for nitrogen oxide emissions.
